What is GPT Zero? Know How to Use the AI-Detector Tool

Ever since the launch of ChatGPT, AI seems to have taken over almost every field of technology. The chatbot, which is able to generate human-like responses to questions and queries, is now used by millions of users around the world.

While the AI-powered tool did make things easier and more productive, it also raised concerns about making people lazy. There were multiple reports of students getting their homework done through ChatGPT and writers using the tool to create original content.

Many people then started looking for an application that could find out if a particular text has been written by a human or generated by AI. A tool named GPT Zero, which serves the purpose, is now gaining popularity.

What is GPT Zero?

GPT Zero is a tool that can quickly and accurately differentiate between a text written by a human and an AI. It has been developed by Edward Tian, a student at Princeton University. The application can be used by educators or anyone who wants to find out if the text that has been submitted to them is the creation of a human or a chatbot.

GPT Zero uses statistical characteristics to give out results. Extensive research and analysis have gone into the tool, making it capable of identifying particular patterns, structures, and language nuances that are commonly observed in AI-generated content.

These statistical characteristics form the foundation of the algorithms used by ChatGPT Zero, allowing it to deliver accurate and reliable results. As per the developer, the tool is now being used by over 1 million people.

How to Use GPT Zero?

It is pretty simple to use GPT Zero. Just follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the tool’s official website: gptzero.me
  2. Enter the text you want to check in the text box.
  3. Alternatively, you can upload a text file directly on the website.
  4. Agree to the terms and service.
  5. Click on Get Results.

GPT Zero will then analyze the text and tell you if it has been generated by AI or not.

Is GPT Zero Free?

GPT Zero is completely free for now. However, the developers are testing a premium version of the application that will come with added advantages of an increased word limit and detailed analysis of the text. The premium version is mainly targeted toward educators.

It has not been launched yet, but interested users can pre-register for it by filling out a form on the GPT Zero website. However, even after all these advantages, some users have pointed out that the tool was not able to evaluate their content correctly and gave out faulty results.

“Today I found that GPT Zero recognized my entire essay as non A.I before I put my essay into Grammarly. Upon revising with Grammarly and resubmitting it into gpt zero, the essay was flagged as entirely written by A.I,” tweeted a user.

Another wrote, “I used GPTZero to test if ChatGPT-aided *editing* can be detected by @edward_the6’s GPTZero The answer is…no! But it’s designed for detecting base text written by ChatGPT, not editing efforts I do recommend using ChatGPT as @Grammarly or ProWritingAid on steroids.”
